Preventive dentistry involves regular dental checkups and cleanings as provided by our dental staff. Regular appointments are important to stay atop of any potential oral health concerns. Even with good brushing habits, plaque, tartar and cavities can develop if not professionally attended to. In addition to examining your teeth and gums, we will inspect around your mouth for any abnormalities that could negatively impact your health. We offer a range of treatments to deal with the findings. For exams and professional teeth cleaning in Edmonton, give us a call today. Our team is committed to maintaining and improving your smile.

Checkups

Checkups are usually recommended once or twice a year depending on your current condition. Regularly scheduled appointments can help catch cavities and other problems at an early stage, preventing a need for more extensive treatment should any issues (broken teeth or toothaches) arise. Furthermore, during the checkup, we do an intra-oral and extra-oral exam to screen for oral cancers and TMD (jaw joint disorders) with which we can make recommendations or refer you to a specialist for more extensive analysis.

Cleanings

Cleanings are also done anywhere from once a year to a few times a year, depending on the health of your bone and gums. During your cleaning, we assess the condition of your bone and gums based on multiple criteria such as how much bone loss you have, whether your gums bleed, the color and texture of your gum tissue, how much tarter and calculus you have, and much more. Your dentist and hygienist will then be able to make recommendations on how to prevent gum disease and maintain the optimal condition of your teeth.

Warning Signs

Halitosis (bad breath) is usually a sign of either large cavities or gum disease. If you experience this, or any type of discomfort with your teeth and gums, definitely book a visit with us to get a checkup and professional cleaning.
